I often spend time with Ben, in his house, he is a great bloke who has been helping me set up my website. I get on really well with him and we are usually engaged in some group activity that leads to us all laughing and joking.
This scene is at the back of my university. I enjoy living here as it is so easy to lose yourself in the countryside. It was a nice evening with sheep in the field to enjoy looking at. I felt the view was somewhat spoilt by the old bin bags there. They needed to be included in the framing to give a true account of this evening.
This room is next to the Black and White darkroom, I spend a lot of time in here, so I felt the need to have an exposure in here. I often sit on the floor to look in my draw as I keep many things in here that I often need access to.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Farnham, I go here approximately twice a week for a wee English breakfast. Their food is decent and their prices are cheap, The restaurant is called the Gorge. It used to be across the street in a cool little location where the inside had been designed to look like the inside of a cave.
This photograph is a direct reference to my previous project on Narrative, I made a video called Dragons, I also made two books, they were both called Reciprocated Gaze, they were a dual narrative between me and an old friend re-getting to know each other.
In the video, I shot all the photograph in my room with a similar view as this, I shot this deliberately so it is confusing as to what is happening as during a nighttime, I do not know what is happening while I sleep - if I can...
Don't you just hate doing the washing up?
I shot this using the tilting action on the large format camera to highlight the kettle, a mundane symbol of hope and relaxation, the washing up is out of focus to forget about it a bit as what usually happens in life.
This is Jonna, we were watching a film and the light looked nice, she wasn't moving much so I shot this exposure of the thing we usually do on an evening.
Like my photograph next to the Darkroom, I spend a lot of time in the Library working on this project, researching and writing blog posts, however I must admit I was catching up on the Six Nations Rugby here.
Again this a standard evening in, a long exposure signifying the long amount of time doing nothing watching films and tv on the laptop.
This is to symbolise my entrapment by everyday life, the same things happening over and over, and my longing to go outside into the nice day in the park.
Again this is the longing to go outside, I framed my washing in the photograph to symbolise being trapped by the mundane things, I also frame my bike in there as riding my bike is something I enjoy a lot!
This series is punctuated by the same imagery of watching tv screens, I am trapped by this modern notion of sitting in front of a TV all my friends like to do this and is a lazy thing I can do while spending time with my friends. The long exposure blur out the actual film or tv show symbolising it doesn't really matter what I am watching as it is never quite as encapsulating as real life.
