Here I did a Google search for clothes and models who looked like insects:

I wonder if this was shot in total darkness and with the flash firing twice with the model in a slightly different position (the the camera could have been carefully moved) or if it has been retouched well.

I love how tiny the model looks. She looks powerful, protective and provoked. She is hunched down but still has a strong personality to her. It looks that the photograph was taken next to a wall, but with minimal shadow on the wall itself. She is well lit from above and from the right, the shadows are very soft though, and only really her left eye is slightly darker than the right. I think this fits well with the concept of garments inspired by insects.

In this photograph the model looks like a dark shiny snake coiling up a pillar. She looks dangerous and poised to pounce because she is sitting upright with her arms bent at her sides.

Here I searched for insects to see the body positions they can have, when I photographed the models I thought about what insects can do:

This looks so much like a dress, it is uncanny. The lower half of its body is lifted outwards and creates beauty in the insect as the colours are shown off.

The curve in the body of this caterpillar is interesting and lets the eye fall away from the image naturally, the leaf pulls your eye towards the head of the caterpillar.

This photograph really does look like something you could see in vogue, the position of the body and camera, and the insect as an object within the picture has a large style that looks amazing when viewed large.

I did a quick google search on Vogue and Elle, just to gather more information on what inspires me for insects and bugs and shells.

I really like this image. I think it is really engaging as the headshot is right in your face. When you look at this image you are looking directly right into her eyes. Muted colours all work well together and make the lips stand out well, without them being bright at all. Her eyes are perfect and display and open pleasure. Her face is exactly symmetrical which contrasts with the lower half of the image with her shoulder naturally turned toward the viewer with her arm place gently on her shoulder.

I like the strange angle of view and the models hand position. She is thoughtful and engaging the viewer, however she has an air of superiority to her.

This photograph is like a green Tree Frog or a Leaf or a Praying Mantis. The front of the dress is shaped like leaves and looks bright. The models face looks like a Rembrandt painting. The colour of it as much as the lighting with the patch of light under her eye of the side of the face in shadow.

This effect is really cool. The silhouette is walking away from the frame and has a casual air of cool. I read this image that the hat and the trousers are dark royal blue with a white shirt, perhaps with a jacket. The framing is interesting as the feet are cropped from the picture which adds tension to the image.

Paco Rabane

This shot doesn't remind me of shells or insects at all but it does look so vibrant and eye catching. The platinum hair and shiny cloths remind me of Emilia Clarke's character Daenerys from Game of Thrones.

The off kilter angle of the horizon works well with the models head position and body position to add a little drama to the shot of the calm sea.

For me I like these dark colourful photos, they have used lots of fill flash to brighten the natural backlight. These images work well for me because of the bright colours and the sunny setting. It would be great to do pictures like these.

Martin Margiela

I like this pictures as the bold V of her legs leads my eyes into the image, then I can focus on the accessories on her top. Having her arm behind her works well as it doesn't look awkward, whereas if she had it in front it would distract from the image. Her left arm pulls my eyes upwards again to view her face which has strong heavy make up. Her hair is styled forwards over her face and her arm is reaching to it but pausing to gasp.

The use of wider angle lens is certainly interesting, but I am not certain it adds something more to the picture. Personally I can quite like the way wide angles push things that are not so close to the lens further away.
